Jury Statement “Graphic Design Week 88”

Contribution of 110 mostly young graphic designers by presenting 130 collections of works, of which 28 collections after the initial selection entered the competition and exhibition section of “Graphic Design Week 88”, although not as wide as other festivals and exhibitions, but in It is a unique event of its kind.

Because Iranian graphic designers have entered the field for the first time in which the essence of graphic design lies and is one of its main cultural and social missions.

“It means challenging the designer’s thoughts and ideas in providing visual solutions to convey a message to the general public and the masses” for the most obvious issues, problems and needs of urban society.

But such professional behaviors require a steady and continuous trend in various fields for graphic designers on the one hand and for large social organizations and institutions on the other.

Community of graphic designers as a sensitive, intelligent and thoughtful segment of urban society can express creative visual solutions in solving socio-cultural problems and anomalies and thoughtful visual solutions by creating new messaging spaces to all members of society. Reflect urban development.

In this regard, the jury of “Graphic Design Week 88” while appreciating the decision of the Graphic Designers Association of Iran to raise the issue of “design and ideation for the problem of municipal waste” and also the Deputy of Municipal Services of Tehran Municipality and Recycling and Conversion Organization Due to the remarkable welcome and support of this information and social education project, Materials hopes to see wider collaborations and partnerships with a wider range of graphic designers and large organizations in future experiences.

The evaluation of the jury from the works submitted to the competition section is that;

1) Most of the participating graphic designers did not pay enough attention to the information appendices of the subject of the competition or did not read it carefully. For this reason, they have not found the right language of communication with the main audience, the masses.

2) The vast majority of them have only a tendency to present beautiful graphic representations and have paid less attention to the main task and its function, which is understandable social information.

3) In many works, creativity and innovation are not novel and psychological in conveying the message, while the complexity of accurate and sometimes powerful messaging and execution is their dominant theme.
